Before the long-awaited changes, an important message for drivers: urge not to drive on this road

The Vilnius–Utena highway has faced long-standing challenges due to pavement degradation, necessitating frequent repairs and occasional traffic restrictions. These persistent issues have historically resulted in significant inconvenience and increased travel times for drivers. To address these structural deficiencies, intensive reconstruction efforts are currently underway across the route.

Authorities are advising drivers to utilize alternative transportation routes where possible, with the goal of accelerating the completion timeline for the necessary upgrades. According to Martynas Gedaminskas, head of Via Lietuva, the completion of these works is anticipated to provide a substantial improvement to the travel experience. He stated that once the reconstruction is finalized, travelers can expect to navigate the road with enhanced safety, greater comfort, and improved speed.

The immediate focus of the reconstruction work is concentrated on the pavement quality of the initial segment of the highway. Specifically, the area between the 21 and 26-kilometer markers, running from Nemenčinė to the intersection with district road No. 5207 Nemenčinė–Eitminiškės–Paberžė, is undergoing primary pavement restoration.

The ongoing investment aims to modernize the infrastructure, ensuring that the road can support modern traffic demands efficiently. These extensive rehabilitation projects are designed to mitigate the cumulative effects of wear and tear, meaning that the improved surface will not only reduce delays but also enhance overall connectivity between the regions.
