In Lithuania, a popular game is being introduced: invite to try out soccer with a footie

The concept for a specialized variant of soccer, known in some regions as “Subsoccer,” originated with Finnish author Jarno Saarinen. In 2008, Saarinen developed this particular game while playing with his daughter, creating a version that does not necessitate a large field or complex equipment setup. The fundamental objective of the game remains centered on controlling the ball using only the feet and scoring it into the opposing goal.

However, the rules governing play are distinct. Official matches are conducted without footwear, requiring players to remain seated throughout the duration of the contest. Furthermore, players are restricted from crossing the designated center line of the playing area.

Scoring is typically managed over two sets. A set is won by the first player to accumulate three goals, and the overall match victory is determined by the player who wins two of the sets. While these guidelines form the basis, the rules are flexible, and various rule variations are accepted.

The introduction of this specific style of soccer to Lithuania was prompted by the beverage producer, Volfas Engelman. The company aimed to find accessible ways to bring the excitement of international world football championships to the local population, offering them an opportunity to experience the joy of the sport firsthand through this adapted format.
