The team reported that the organizers communicated verbally that the Russian flag would not be displayed in the arena, and that the national anthem would not be played even if the Russian gymnasts achieved victory.
Russia contends that these restrictions directly contradict the decision of the sport’s governing body. This governing body had re-admitted Russia into the sport’s ranks in May, following a four-year period of disqualification related to the war in Ukraine. In response to the stated limitations, the Russian delegation indicated that it is considering pursuing legal action.
The goal of any potential legal measures would be to compel the organizing body to comply with the decisions made by the sport’s governing authority.
