A “Porsche” counterfeit was caught at the airport – could have posed a security risk

Airport officials at Kaunas Airport conducted an inspection of packages originating from Hong Kong, leading to the discovery of merchandise bearing the “Porsche” brand. During the thorough examination of the shipment, customs personnel identified several items, including plastic “Porsche” car badges and eighteen corresponding car key fobs. Upon initial assessment, the officials suspected that the composition of these goods might constitute an infringement upon intellectual property rights.

Consequently, a formal protocol for the seizure of the items was established, and the merchandise was subsequently confiscated. Customs officers stated that the total assessed value of the seized goods amounted to 70.69 euros. To definitively establish the authenticity and nature of the items, the seized car badges and key fobs were submitted to representatives authorized by the brand owner.

These representatives subsequently confirmed that the goods in question indeed violate the established intellectual property rights associated with “Porsche.” The action taken at the airport underscores the ongoing vigilance of customs authorities in monitoring imports to prevent the circulation of counterfeit products. This incident highlights the collaboration between border control agencies and trademark holders to safeguard intellectual property rights within the region.
