On June 30, Polish border guards reported the detention of six foreign nationals who illegally crossed the border between Lithuania and Poland. The detentions occurred in separate locations; one Moroccan citizen was apprehended in the Špiliškės district, while five Sudanese citizens were detained near Seinas. The migrants reportedly crossed the border on foot, evading border officials.
During the preceding three-day weekend, Lithuanian authorities detained nearly one hundred migrants who had entered Lithuania illegally. Separately, an incident involving Estonian migrants was reported, resulting in the arrest of the driver by Lithuanian border guards, though the migrants themselves did not reach the country. In the context of regional border security, Lithuanian border guards are expected to assist Latvia in managing illegal migration stemming from Belarus.
All individuals detained in this capacity will be returned to Lithuania under an existing readmission agreement. Furthermore, as of the beginning of 2026, the Palenkė Border Guard Detachment will assume responsibility for protecting Lithuania from unauthorized migration originating in Belarus. These ongoing operations underscore the increased focus on securing the border between Lithuania and its neighbors.
