The plan backfired on the perpetrators: two former Vilnius policemen were sentenced

The prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department of the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office has requested that both individuals convicted pay a fine of 5,000 euros each. This request followed the state indictment, which was supported by the prosecutor’s office, which also managed the pre-trial investigation. It is noted that earlier this year, the Vilnius City District Court had previously acquitted both officials regarding allegations of abuse of office, and subsequently dismissed charges related to document forgery, leading to the termination of those specific cases.

The underlying incident stems from March 2024 in Vilnius. According to case records, the former police officers received a report concerning a vehicle parked in a shopping center parking lot. The report indicated that the car was improperly parked, its windows were covered with rain, and the driver inside was suspected of intoxication.

Upon responding to the call, the officers arrived at the scene and found the vehicle parked with its engine switched off. These details form the background context for the current proceedings before the court.
