The Vilnius County Police Commissioner reported details regarding two separate vehicular incidents that occurred in the Vilnius area on Saturday. The first reported accident involved a 26-year-old man who was driving a Peugeot, identified as belonging to the “SPARK Lithuania” rental company. According to authorities, the man lost control of the vehicle after reportedly falling asleep while operating the car, resulting in a collision with a pole.
The young man sustained a hand injury at the scene and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Initial data indicated that the driver was sober at the time of the incident. Earlier on the same day, at approximately 4:20 PM, a separate accident took place in the Žirmūnai district.
This incident involved a 19-year-old who was driving a BMW 530e while under the influence of alcohol, registering a blood alcohol concentration of 0.58 promille. The vehicle struck a streetlight pole. Injuries were reported for the 19-year-old driver, as well as two passengers—a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old girl—who were also injured in the collision.
These incidents highlight varying causes of traffic accidents in the region. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding both events, emphasizing the need for safe driving practices among all drivers in Vilnius.
