A bloody Friday on Lithuanian roads took another life: a woman was killed in a head-on collision in Varėna district

On July 10, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a traffic incident occurred in the Varėna district, near Kurmiškės village. According to reports from the Police Department, a car reportedly crossed into the opposing lane, resulting in a collision with another vehicle. The accident resulted in serious casualties.

One passenger from the involved car, identified as a woman approximately 60 years of age, sustained injuries and was pronounced deceased around 6:00 p.m. Following the collision, local witnesses reported that the roadway near the site of the accident remained closed for several hours as authorities managed the scene. The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns within the region, as recent weeks have seen multiple reports of vehicular accidents across different Lithuanian district areas.

These reports include a fatal incident in the Raseiniai district, where a driver was found deceased in an overturned car, and a multi-vehicle collision in Kaunas involving five cars, which resulted in one fatality. Additionally, separate tragic events were reported in the Švenčionys district, where a woman died after being swept away by the road. The Varėna district collision serves as another reminder of the risks associated with roadway incidents.
