Lithuanians stopped a Romanian tractor in which 27 migrants had been hiding from Lithuania

Polish border guards and customs officers conducted an operation on Saturday at the Budzisko border crossing, situated on the Lithuanian side at the Kalvarijos post. During the inspection, authorities stopped a lorry that was being operated by a 50-year-old Romanian citizen. Upon inspection of the semi-trailer, officials discovered 27 migrants who had reportedly entered Poland illegally from Lithuania.

Following the initial discovery, Polish customs provided details regarding the nationalities of the detained individuals. The group comprised 18 people identified as Somali nationals, 5 from Pakistan, and 4 from Afghanistan. Border guard reports indicated that the process of establishing the identities of the detained migrants was ongoing before noon on Saturday.

Authorities stated that a decision regarding their subsequent handling would be made once identification procedures were finalized. Standard protocol in such incidents dictates that the migrants are typically returned to Lithuanian authorities. Furthermore, the driver and any accompanying guides involved in the transport are usually detained and transferred to local police for further investigation.

The operation underscores ongoing border security efforts between Poland and Lithuania.
