Klaipėdos doctors did what seemed impossible: they removed lung cancer in an unusual way (1)

Research conducted internationally indicated that the tumor was not spreading and was theoretically amenable to surgical removal. However, the report states that due to the patient’s extremely severe respiratory condition, the planned specific treatment was abandoned because the associated risks were deemed too high. Alexander Bagajev, a thoracic surgeon at the Klaipėda Regional Hospital, recounted his initial consultation with the patient, noting that the outlook was not optimistic.

“I first saw him sitting in a wheelchair, breathing through a portable oxygen apparatus. The first thought was that this was not a surgical patient,” the doctor says. He added that the man was in a critical state, suggesting the patient was practically without any viable options.

Consequently, the medical team decided to focus on finding a solution. Separately, another incident was reported involving a mentally ill man who allegedly stabbed a paramedic with a knife inside a GMP vehicle. This incident represents a separate event from the medical case detailed above.
