Mantas Matulionis won the competition for the position of customs department head

The Ministry of Finance has announced a competitive process for selecting the next head of the national customs department. The official search for the role, which carries a five-year term of office, is scheduled to take place during the second half of April. Authorities are currently awaiting the final results of the candidate selection process.

The need for a new leader in the customs department arose following the dismissal of the previous director, Darius Žvironas, after he was apprehended driving while intoxicated. In the interim period, Vygantas Paigozinas has assumed the role of temporary head of the department. The institutional changes within the financial and corporate sectors suggest a period of leadership transitions across various entities.

For instance, related reporting has noted that in other sectors, such as banking, specific appointments have been made. Previously, “Igničiui” assumed leadership in Lithuania following the departure of the former head of the customs department, S. Bartkus, while concurrently, “Revolut Bank” appointed Cuba Fast to head its Lithuanian operations.

The selection of a permanent head for the customs department remains a key focus for the Ministry. The rigorous competition underscores the importance of the customs department’s leadership role within the national economic framework. The process aims to identify a qualified individual capable of leading the department for the next five years.
