ELTA: Briefly: doubts about the submission of the Government Programme, extended detention of Mr. Stepukonis

The Vilnius District Court has reportedly extended the pre-trial detention of former “BaltCap” fund partner Šarūnas Stepukonis. Stepukonis, who faced repeated detentions in April, is suspected of involvement in the embezzlement of 42 million euros. His arrest has been extended by the court until September.

In separate political developments, Professor Egidijus Kūris noted that a program put forth by Mindaugo Sinkevičius’s government was submitted without adhering to the established constitutional procedures. Meanwhile, the Lithuanian Anti-Corruption Center (LAT) reported that preparations for certain actions began last year, citing concerns regarding discrimination against Russian-speaking populations across the Baltic States. Complementing this, a joint international investigation involving journalists from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia revealed that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had submitted a report detailing the situation in the Baltic States to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) during the previous year.
