They rushed to save their son’s life, but the hospital did not accept: nobody wants to experience what they went through

A child’s tongue swelling presented a potentially life-threatening emergency situation. According to a concerned family member, the child required immediate medical attention. However, reports indicate that the necessary emergency care was not administered at the Klaipėda University Hospital (KUL) Palanga emergency medical aid department.

Instead, the family was advised to transport the child to Klaipėda using their own means of transport. Marius Ellikas, the head of the emergency medical care department at KUL, stated that emergency care is provided to all individuals. In response to the incident, an internal review of the circumstances has been initiated.

A woman from Vilnius publicly accused the medical staff, asserting that the child’s condition could have been more severe without alleged negligence. The family described the experience as a significant shock. The incident has prompted appeals to local authorities, including the Mayor of Palanga, Šarūnas Vaitkus, and the responsible Health Department.

The focus of the investigation remains on the protocol followed during the critical moments when the child’s tongue began to swell, highlighting concerns regarding the initial response within the hospital setting.
