Šarūnas Matijošaitis, a member of the Kaunas City Council and son of Visvaldas Matijošaitis, recently acquired property from the state-owned Turto bankas. Reports indicated that at the end of October, the bank auctioned the former barracks complex and associated land in the Panemunė district, which Š. Matijošaitis purchased.
Regarding the acquired assets, Š. Matijošaitis informed the Verslo žinios portal of his development plans. Specifically, concerning the plot at 28 Perloja Street within the barracks, he intends to convert the structure into lofts.
He stated that this conversion aligns with the city’s general plan and that the building itself qualifies as a well-preserved heritage object. In addition to the Panemunė site, the politician also outlined plans for a separate development in Šilainiai. He stated his intention to construct a new four-story office building, spanning an area of 840 square meters, on Žemaičių plentas for administrative use.
However, current records from the Registrų centras suggest that the specific land plot and building associated with this Šilainiai project are not currently available. The plans suggest a focus on repurposing existing structures, with the loft conversion potentially yielding residential units, while the proposed office building aims to establish new administrative capacity within the city.
