Due to significant shifts among the parliamentarians, adjustments were necessary for the legislative agenda. Consequently, the parliamentary session originally scheduled for June 30 has been extended to the middle of July. These changes reflect broader alterations within the governing coalition, marked by the withdrawal of the “Nemuno aušra” party.
The restructuring affected not only the composition of the government but also the leadership structure within the Seimas. On Tuesday, the Seimas took action regarding its leadership roles. Raimondas Šukys, who was affiliated with the “Nemuno aušra” faction, was dismissed from his post as the first deputy of the Seimas.
To fill the leadership gaps, the role of the first deputy of the Seimas, previously appointed by Deputy of the Seimas Jozas Olekas, was supplemented. The position was subsequently reinforced by two new first deputies: Domas Griškevičius, representing the democratic bloc, and Jūratė Zailskienė, representing the social democratic party. These procedural changes underscore the ongoing recalibration of political power following the coalition adjustments.
The extension of the session suggests that critical legislative items remain on the docket, requiring the full attention of the Seimas amid the reshuffling of its executive and deputy leadership roles. The adjustments aim to stabilize the parliamentary operations following the recent political realignment.
