Prosecutors from Kaunas, Šiauliai, and Panevėžys have filed appeals with the courts regarding potential unjustified enrichment. The prosecutor’s office is seeking to recover significant sums, primarily from Vytas Bujanauskas, a former member of the Prienai district council. An analysis conducted by the prosecutor’s office of documents submitted by V.
Bujanauskas for council expense reimbursement revealed that the council member was compensated 14,443 euros for fuel costs. However, the records indicated that the council member had purchased only 11,675 liters of fuel, comprising both diesel and gasoline. Separately, several high-profile cases involving local officials have reached the court stage.
Marijampolė mayor P. Isoda was sentenced in the “chips” case, resulting in the loss of his office. Regarding the “chips” case, the court has begun its examination of Seimas member E.
Sabutis, who has not admitted guilt. Furthermore, the prosecutor has requested that the court sentence Prienai mayor A. Vaicekauskas in the “chips” case, a charge to which he has also pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor’s office continues to pursue legal action concerning these matters involving local governance and financial accountability within the council structure.
