Afghan citizen who traveled to Belarus presented for border guards a forged passport of his country

On Tuesday night, officers from the Vilnius border guard district, stationed at the Medininkai Border Guard Post, conducted routine document checks on a bus traveling from Lithuania and registered in Belarus. During the inspection, the attention of the border guard was drawn to the passport presented by one passenger, a 31-year-old Afghan citizen. Due to discrepancies noted during the initial review, the passenger was disembarked from the bus and escorted to the administrative premises of the Medininkai Border Guard Post.

After a thorough examination, the VSAT officers concluded that the Afghan passport presented by the individual showed multiple signs inconsistent with an original document, leading the authorities to classify it as a complete forgery. The detained individual stated that the passport had been obtained through official channels in Afghanistan. Furthermore, he indicated possession of a temporary residence permit issued by Portugal and stated his intended destination was Belarus.

The incident underscores the ongoing vigilance of the border control agencies. The border guard unit maintained its standard procedure, confirming the document’s invalidity. This action highlights the border guard’s role in preventing the passage of fraudulent travel documents across international boundaries.

The investigation into the forged documentation involving the Afghan national is ongoing as part of standard border security protocol.
