For the large fire in Marijampolė – a warning to local residents

On July 15th, a significant incident occurred in Marijampolė when a fire broke out at the warehouse belonging to the company “Ecoservice” on Vasaros street. Initial reports, received by the Situation Coordination Section of the Pre-Fire Protection and Rescue Department at 6:49 p.m., were corroborated by numerous local residents who observed a column of black smoke rising into the sky. Emergency services were immediately mobilized to the scene.

The blaze, which was fueled by stacks of plastic and paper waste stored adjacent to the warehouse, required a substantial response. Firefighters reported that numerous units were dispatched, involving at least six tankers. The incident highlighted the scale of the required rescue effort.

While the primary focus was the warehouse fire, emergency services were also managing reports of a separate event involving a gas cylinder explosion in the Vilnius district that affected a two-story residence. Despite the complexity of the situation, the fire was successfully contained. By 7:52 p.m., the blaze had been localized, and the spread was halted.

Authorities issued warnings to local residents regarding the ongoing emergency situation. The deployment of large numbers of specialized rescue forces was crucial in managing the resulting smoke and preventing further escalation of the fire.
