R. Kaunas: the ambition for conscripts should be even greater: the public has shown that it is ready

R. Kaunas stated on Monday that the readiness demonstrated by Lithuanian society and its young citizens necessitates an increased level of ambition from the military sector. Speaking to LRT radio, Kaunas addressed the current capacity and future recruitment plans for the armed forces.

According to Kaunas, the military structure could potentially integrate an additional 530 conscripts within the current year. However, he cautioned that the primary prerequisite for accepting these individuals is ensuring that proper preparatory conditions are in place. During the discussion, the head of the Ministry of Defense confirmed the potential intake numbers while emphasizing the need for thorough readiness checks.

He indicated that subsequent discussions with army commanders regarding future conscript quotas would take place in the following year. The remarks suggest a phased approach to manpower supplementation, contingent upon operational preparedness. Kaunas’ comments reflect a measured assessment of national capacity, noting that the public commitment to service has been clearly shown by the populace.

These statements underscore the government’s acknowledgment that both the citizenry and the defense apparatus are increasingly positioned as ready for potential mobilization efforts. The administration is reportedly monitoring the situation closely, with specific details regarding the timing of volunteer deployments to locations such as Rudninkai village to be addressed in further statements.
