The Marijampolė City Council convened on Monday and reached a decision regarding local leadership. During the session, 19 council members voted in favor of a specific candidate, while four members abstained from voting. According to the council’s resolution, V.
Tumelis will retain these appointed positions through the municipal elections scheduled for 2027. Separately, a significant administrative action was taken concerning local political figures. The National Revenue Agency (VRK) intervened regarding Social Democrat P.
Isoda. This action followed a criminal case where Mr. Isoda was found guilty of a “cheque” offense.
As a direct consequence of the conviction, the VRK annulled the powers previously held by the individual. The ruling effectively stripped him of his official capacity. The formal sentence was issued after the court determined Mr.
Isoda’s culpability in the matter of the cheque crime. This development meant that his tenure as mayor was terminated by the state agency. The vrk decision thus marked a formal change in his status, indicating that his authority no longer stood.
