M. Rubio: Xi Jinpingo visit to the US is still planned for September

Before departing for the ASEAN foreign ministers’ meeting, M. Rubio addressed journalists at the United States Andrews base. Regarding an anticipated trip, Rubio indicated that the travel was hoped for in September.

He noted that Chinese officials had continued to provide instructions related to the potential visit. When questioned about the likelihood of a visit, Rubio said, “I have no reason to think he won’t come.”

In a separate discussion concerning global leadership priorities, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented that major world figures, including Xi Jinping, Emmanuel Macron, and Vladimir Putin, are aware of the importance of international engagements. The Ministry added that both countries maintain ongoing contact due to a meeting scheduled later in the year.

The remarks were made against a backdrop of established diplomatic friction. Previously, Donald Trump accused China of interfering in the 2020 US presidential elections, an election in which Joe Biden ultimately won. Beijing formally rejected these accusations of interference.
