The area surrounding the “Sakai” development in Kaunas is undergoing significant revitalization, aiming to enhance functionality and improve pedestrian comfort. Previously, the section of K. Jelskio street lacked adequate infrastructure, presenting safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists due to insufficient pathways and poor connectivity.
According to Mykolas Čiplys, Sales and Rentals Manager at Darun Group, the initial efforts have already addressed several critical issues. The first stage of the project focused on renovating and adapting the carriageway for traffic flow while simultaneously installing green belt separated paths designated for pedestrians and bicycles. This initial reconstruction phase specifically covered the segment of K.
Jelskio street stretching from the intersection with Parodų street to the intersection with Šaltūnų street. Furthermore, a previously unrepaired blind alley was rehabilitated as part of these works. The scope of the first stage included the installation of a 6.5-meter-wide, two-way roadway.
These comprehensive improvements mark a substantial upgrade to the local environment. The overall goal of the redevelopment is to create a more accessible and comfortable passage for all users. The ongoing work emphasizes integrating modern infrastructure solutions with enhanced public safety measures, transforming the streetscape into a more cohesive and usable urban space.
