Officers from the Ukmergė Police Department in the Anykščiai district apprehended three young foreign nationals in the forest area on Friday evening. None of the individuals possessed documentation verifying their identity or citizenship. Two of the arrested persons stated they were citizens of Bangladesh, while the third claimed Indian nationality.
All three asserted that their intended destination for travel was Germany. Separately, a 19-year-old Latvian citizen was also taken into custody at a gas station. This individual is suspected of facilitating the illegal transportation of the three foreign nationals in a BMW vehicle originating from Latvia.
The Vilnius Border Guard District has initiated an investigation into the matter, focusing on the unlawful transportation of people across the state border for personal gain. Such activities are subject to legal penalties, which can include substantial fines or imprisonment for a period of up to eight years. The investigation aims to determine the full scope of the operation involving them.
The involvement of the Latvian citizen in transporting the group underscores the seriousness of the alleged border violations concerning travel to Germany.
