On the night of Wednesday, officers from the Vilnius Border Guard District’s Padvarioniai Border Post conducted a routine inspection of a vehicle bearing Kyrgyzstani license plates as it entered Lithuania from Belarus. During the process, officers reviewed the documentation presented by the driver, a 41-year-old citizen of Belarus, who was operating the minivan. The inspection revealed significant discrepancies concerning the belarusian man’s legal status.
Officers discovered that the individual had been subject to a police search warrant issued by the capital’s police in April 2020, meaning the alert had been active for over six years. Furthermore, the investigation uncovered his previous immigration history within the region. The man had previously been issued temporary residence permits in Lithuania spanning the period from November 2013 to December 2015.
The authorities also noted that, at the time of the stop, the individual possessed a current temporary residence permit issued by Spain. This suggested a pattern of international movement despite outstanding legal obligations. Compounding the issue, border officials confirmed that French police were also actively searching for the same belarusian national.
The incident highlights the coordination required among international law enforcement agencies to determine who is seeking the individual and to manage border security protocols concerning citizens traveling from Belarus.
