LAT decided to examine the complaint of ex-parliamentarian A. Vyšniauskas, who was sentenced in the case of “cheques”

The Lithuanian court of appeal has accepted the cassation appeal filed by the defendant, Andrius Vyšniauskas, according to confirmation provided by the representative of the Lithuanian Supreme Court, Tautvilė Merkevičiūtė. The proceedings related to this complex case will be examined through a written procedure. Mr.

Vyšniauskas stated his objective is to challenge the conviction handed down by the Court of Appeal. Specifically, he seeks either the annulment of the conviction, the termination of the criminal case, or the return of the matter to the Court of Appeal for a fresh review. Speaking to the press, Vyšniauskas strongly contested the proceedings, alleging that the entire case was fundamentally flawed from its inception.

He maintained that the accusations stemmed from the prosecutors’ incorrect interpretation of the factual circumstances and lacked adequate legal premises. He asserted that both the district court and the Supreme Court should have recognized these deficiencies, suggesting the entire legal action should have been dismissed. The decision by the court to accept the appeal signals a significant procedural development in the ongoing case.

The focus now shifts to the written review process, where the legal merits and procedural arguments presented by the defense will be scrutinized by the higher judicial body. This development keeps the matter active within the Lithuanian legal system as the defense continues its challenge through the appeal process.
