Klaipeda’s Road Police recently conducted an enforcement operation within the city center, resulting in the recording of 33 traffic violations. A specific focus of the patrol was noise pollution emanating from vehicle engines. During one recorded instance of monitoring, officers documented nine such infractions, involving two passenger cars and seven motorcycles whose engine noise surpassed established legal limits.
These findings underscore ongoing efforts by local authorities to enforce adherence to noise regulations within urban cores. For violations related to excessive engine noise, the established penalty involves a monetary fine ranging from 100 to 600 euros for initial offenses. Furthermore, the regulations specify a higher penalty structure for repeat violations, which can result in a fine between 500 and 1000 euros, as stipulated under Article 48 of the LR ANK.
Beyond financial penalties, the police noted that such violations can carry significant operational consequences. In addition to the monetary penalty, the vehicle in question may have its mandatory technical inspection canceled. This action serves as a deterrent, ensuring that vehicles operating in the city center meet required safety and emission standards.
The cumulative enforcement actions highlight the police department’s commitment to maintaining public order and environmental compliance through routine patrols and thorough vehicle inspection.
