The Dutch architectural studio MVRDV has unveiled an unconventional design concept titled “Rotterdam ROCKS!” This proposal is slated for a new cultural and multi-purpose complex situated on the south bank of the Maas River, within the future Waterkant district of Rotterdam. The ambitious architecture aims to create a highly distinctive landmark within the city’s landscape. The core concept involves the construction of seven irregularly shaped volumes, stacked atop one another.
These structures are designed to mimic natural rock formations, covered in moss and vegetation. Complementing the stacked volumes will be winding outdoor staircases, pathways, and landscaped green areas, creating an integrated natural setting. Functionally, the complex is envisioned as a vertical public space dedicated to culture, entertainment, and open interaction with nature.
