Three separate landslides impacted the popular Cilertal holiday region on Thursday evening, resulting in the temporary closure of several valley roads due to accumulations of mud and rock debris, police reported on Friday. According to reports from the Austrian broadcaster ORF, the disruption led to an incident where a total of 11 individuals were stranded within a mountain inn located near Bad Gastein. Emergency response operations commenced following the debris flow.
During the incident on Thursday, six hikers were successfully evacuated by helicopter, while the staff members of the inn remained on site. Furthermore, the APA news agency confirmed that firefighting services were dispatched to address flooding issues in cellars and streets across Innsbruck and Kitzbühel.
