According to a recent report, housing ownership rates in Lithuania show a significantly high trend when compared to some other established European economies. Marijonas Chmieliauskas, sales director at Realco, noted that data, supported by broader figures from Eurostat, suggests that in 2025, approximately 87% of the Lithuanian population resided in owner-occupied housing. Chmieliauskas contextualized this finding by pointing out that ownership rates in certain economically robust European nations are considerably lower.
For instance, the survey data indicated that in Germany, ownership stood at about 47% of the population, while Austria reported a rate of 54%, and Denmark showed a figure of 58%. The survey also provided details regarding the portion of the population not owning their primary residence. Within Lithuania, about 9% of the population reported living in rented accommodations.
Furthermore, an additional 6% of the population stated that they reside with relatives. These figures illustrate the distribution of housing arrangements across the Lithuanian population, contrasting sharply with the rates observed in neighboring or comparable European markets. The comprehensive nature of the survey allows for a clear snapshot of current housing tenure patterns across different demographic groups within the country.
