Popovienė presented findings from the state final exams conducted over the past two years, suggesting that a 25-point benchmark for the VBE pass mark is optimal. According to the minister, this level provides a balance, avoiding the significant decline in passing rates observed during a previous experiment utilizing a 35-point threshold, while also being substantially higher than the former 16-point requirement.
Popovienė confirmed that the 25-point standard is slated for future implementation. Nevertheless, she stated that the ministry plans to continue monitoring exam results and analyzing the proportion of students who do not achieve a passing grade. She noted, “We foresee that the 25-point pass mark will be applied in the future,” indicating an ongoing commitment to evaluating the efficacy of the grading criteria.
The minister clarified that the state final examinations serve not only as an assessment for students with strong academic records but also for those enrolled in vocational schools. This context follows a decision by G. Nausėda to postpone the introduction of stricter academic requirements for tenth-grade students.
