A significant rainfall anomaly has been reported across several regions of Lithuania. Specifically, the area known as Mėlynasis plotelis, located within the Telšių, Kelmės, and Šiaulių districts, experienced a particularly difficult weather situation between August 1st and August 26th, with recorded precipitation exceeding 250% of the established monthly norm. Gytis Valaika, founder of “Weather and Climate in Lithuania,” highlighted that the most intense rainfall conditions were observed in the Upynos, Tryškiai, Užventis, Šaukėnai, Kuršėnai, and Raudėnų rural and Raudėnų municipalities.
According to Valaika, rainfall in these areas registered levels more than 2.5 times the typical amount recorded for August. Commenting on the broader meteorological context, an expert associated with ESO noted that the underlying issue appears systemic. Regarding the immediate forecast, conditions are expected to shift; the coming days are predicted to bring warmer and drier weather patterns.
However, precipitation is anticipated to return starting from the weekend. Furthermore, localized rainfall is forecasted for Wednesday across some areas.
