Tragic end of an alpinist’s journey in Kyrgyzstan: the body of a Lithuanian was recognized by relatives

The remains of M. Poliansky and S. Rubcov have been located in the Ošo mountain and are scheduled for repatriation to their respective home countries.

Sviridov, and S. Rubcov had successfully summited Mount Kurumdy on August 2nd. The group’s planned descent to the base camp was scheduled for August 4th, but the designated time could not be reached.

The search efforts were hampered by adverse weather conditions, which reportedly caused delays and complicated the search operation initiated by the Ministry of Emergency Situations and local volunteers. Mount Kurumdy is situated on the border shared by Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and China, and the surrounding mountain range is characterized by narrow ridges. Separately, following flooding in Nepal, reports indicate that the death toll has surpassed 400.
