Warning about approaching wolf attacks in Lithuania: here’s what lures the predators

Wolves are protected wild animals and constitute a significant component of Lithuania’s ecosystem. While they generally maintain a distance from human settlements, the availability of easily accessible prey can sometimes lead them to approach farms and homesteads. The risk of interaction escalates when livestock are grazed without supervision, left unattended in open pastures overnight, or lack adequate protection.

The greatest vulnerability occurs at nightfall, a period when smaller farm animals such as sheep, goats, and calves are most susceptible. To mitigate the potential risk of predation, it is recommended that these livestock be housed in barns or secured within well-protected enclosures throughout the night. Maintaining proper safeguarding measures for farm animals is crucial for minimizing conflict between wildlife and agricultural practices.

Proper nighttime containment significantly reduces the likelihood of encounters that could pose a threat to either the livestock or the surrounding community.
