A recent study analyzed over 65,000 job postings originating from Lithuania between January 2025 and May 2026. The analysis revealed that nearly a quarter of these postings mentioned at least one of the 21 specific programming languages examined. In terms of frequency, SQL emerged as the most cited language, appearing in 49% of the analyzed cases, followed closely by Python at 39%.
JavaScript accounted for 16% of mentions, while TypeScript and Java each registered around 15% of the occurrences. These findings suggest a high demand for technical expertise across several programming disciplines. However, the report indicates that modern technological roles require skill sets that extend beyond mere coding proficiency.
Employers are increasingly seeking candidates who possess a comprehensive understanding of data principles, process automation capabilities, and the ability to select the optimal tool for specific business challenges. While employers value individuals proficient in numerous programming languages, the emphasis is shifting toward practical application. The market currently favors specialists who can effectively bridge the gap between technical knowledge and tangible business value.
Proficiency in multiple programming languages remains advantageous, but the capacity to apply this knowledge—to transform raw data into actionable business insights—is becoming the most critical requirement in the current job market.
