The collision took place approximately 18 nautical miles from the Silivri district, situated on the western outskirts of the Istanbul province. Officials stated that the Tugberk Imamoglu was deemed to have sunk after crew members failed to respond to communications. The Alsu captain reported the collision at 3:15 local time.
Following the incident, significant search and rescue operations were immediately launched. Fourteen search and rescue vessels were dispatched to the scene, supported by a helicopter. Authorities confirmed that rescue equipment, including a life raft, was recovered from the surrounding waters.
