The Panevėžys court has imposed a fine of 100,000 euros on Romanians who stole hybrid car batteries

On the late evening of January 12th in Panevėžys, an incident involving suspicious activity at an apartment building on Vilties street prompted residents to contact the authorities. A local resident first observed two men loitering near the parked vehicles. When the individual checked his own car, he alerted his neighbor to the suspicious presence.

The neighbor subsequently inspected her hybrid car parked in the yard and discovered signs of tampering. Specifically, she found a broken window and evidence that a battery, valued at approximately 2,000 euros, had been unsuccessfully removed. Promptly, the residents notified the police department.

The initial witness provided detailed descriptions of the suspects, which aided the police investigation, leading to the swift arrest of both men. Authorities initiated a formal investigation into the attempted property theft. During the course of their inquiries, investigators uncovered additional details regarding the suspects.

It was determined that the two individuals, who had arrived in the country only a few days prior, were themselves victims of a robbery. The police continued their investigation to establish the full context of the attempted theft and the circumstances surrounding the suspects’ own victimization.
