VSAT: 12 illegal migrants turned back at the Belarus border

Lithuania’s border services have continued to intercept irregular crossings originating from Belarus. On Tuesday, the Lithuanian border service reported preventing the entry of 71 migrants into the country. This figure contrasts with reports from Polish officials, who indicated that no such individuals were reported crossing on the preceding day, Monday.

The data highlights ongoing border management efforts in response to the migration situation stemming from Belarus. A comparison with the previous year reveals a reduction in the volume of interceptions at prohibited points. Last year, officials documented over 1,600 individuals who were denied entry from Belarus in restricted areas.

This year, the number recorded was 792. Collectively, these statistics contribute to a cumulative total. Since the onset of the migration crisis linked to Belarus, authorities have reported preventing the entry of approximately 25,300 irregular migrants across the border.

The continuous monitoring of the border suggests sustained vigilance by national security agencies managing the flow of people attempting to enter the region. These figures underscore the ongoing challenges faced by border control agencies in managing cross-border movements related to the ongoing geopolitical situation.
