URK leader: Lithuania has proposed to China to restore representation at the level of temporary trustees

A parliamentarian indicated that Lithuania has reportedly made a concession and is currently awaiting a response from China regarding diplomatic relations. According to the official, following a period of diplomatic strain, Lithuania has agreed to adopt a structure previously proposed by China: the establishment of a bureau of temporary affairs commissioners. The source noted that the previous refusal by Lithuania to adopt this specific arrangement was cited as a factor in the Chinese embassy’s withdrawal.

However, the parliamentarian stated that Lithuania has now formally offered its current agreement to establish the aforementioned bureau. Furthermore, a social democrat expert analyzing the situation suggested that China benefits strategically from its relationship with North Korea, viewing it as a crucial partner for mitigating U.S. influence within the region.

The parliamentarian also observed an increase in diplomatic-level contacts between the two nations. The report concluded by noting that, in the near future, Lithuania is expected to undertake further diplomatic visits. These developments suggest a potential thaw in the bilateral relationship, contingent upon China’s acceptance of the revised proposal.

The concession represents a shift in Lithuania’s diplomatic stance, aiming to normalize engagement with Beijing by accommodating the framework initially proposed by China.
