Lawyer P. Galubickas, representing the firm HubLegal, has announced preparations for a class-action lawsuit directed at the state concerning data that was either lost or leaked from the Registrars’ Center (RC). According to Galubickas, the legal action is being prepared by a group of concerned individuals.
He noted that approximately a thousand people have registered their interest in participating in the collective lawsuit, though participation numbers may fluctuate. Galubickas advised that for the legal proceedings to be most effective, the plaintiffs should ideally include both the Ministry of Justice, which functions as the official registrar, and the RC itself, as the entity managing the data. Furthermore, he pointed out an unusual financial transaction, mentioning that the VRM recently received an account totaling 100,000 euros originating from the Registrars’ Center.
Addressing the damages aspect, Galubickas stated that accurately quantifying the non-material damages suffered by individuals whose data has been leaked presents significant legal challenges. Despite this difficulty in precise valuation, he indicated that preliminary calculations have been conducted to estimate potential claims within the framework of the impending lawsuit. The group’s efforts aim to address the systemic issues surrounding data security and privacy following the recent data breach incidents.
