VSAT: one illegal migrant turned back at the border with Belarus

Lithuanian border authorities reported that on Friday, they did not admit 46 migrants into the country. Furthermore, Polish officials indicated that no such individuals were recorded on the preceding day, Thursday. Examining the trend over the past year, official data shows that Lithuania permitted the entry of fewer people from Belarus via unauthorized border crossings this year compared to the previous year.

Last year, authorities documented over 1,600 individuals entering from Belarus in prohibited locations, whereas this year the figure was 805. Cumulatively, since the migration crisis initiated by Belarus, approximately 25,400 irregular migrants have been prevented from entering Lithuania. In response to these ongoing challenges at the border, Lithuania has been intensifying its border surveillance efforts, including coordination with Latvia.

These measures aim to mitigate secondary migration flows across the region. Recent reports have highlighted instances where border patrols have intercepted groups, confirming that certain individuals were turned back at the border. These statistics underscore the ongoing security focus along Lithuania’s border.

The consistent monitoring and enforcement actions are necessary to manage irregular migration attempts originating from Belarus, ensuring that the nation’s border integrity is maintained against various pressures.
