In Spanish resorts – horror: 6 children drowned in 72 hours, emergency warning issued

An expert has issued a warning to holidaymakers, emphasizing the critical need for constant supervision of children at beaches and swimming pools. This advisory followed reports that a three-year-old Danish boy died in a swimming pool located at a hospital in Kan Pikaforto, Santa Margalida, on Saturday. Health officials reported that the severity of the incidents has been notable across Spain.

Specifically, they stated that six minors died within the last 72 hours. The affected regions included Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, Andalusia, and the Canary Islands. According to the expert commentary, the primary contributing factor in these drowning incidents is often identified as insufficient attention or supervision from responsible adults.

Officials noted that in instances where a child becomes a victim, the child is unable to summon help. Furthermore, the data suggests a pattern, revealing that a lack of care was identified in nine out of ten reported drowning cases involving children. The warnings underscore that while recreational water activities are common during holiday periods, vigilance is paramount.

The consistent failure to monitor children in swimming areas remains a central concern for public safety officials, urging parents and guardians to maintain continuous oversight to prevent such incidents from occurring.
