From the mouth of the Minister of Defense of Germany – news in Pabradė: assessed the situation of the brigade

Speaking to journalists in Pabradė on Monday, B. Pistorius confirmed that the principle of voluntary service will remain the cornerstone of staffing efforts, with alternative measures to be considered only if necessary. He provided an update on the ongoing development of defense capabilities within Lithuania.

Pistorius stated that the expansion of infrastructure designed to support approximately 5,000 both men and women in Lithuania is proceeding according to established plans, with full capacity anticipated by the end of 2027. He reported that currently, about 90% of the required personnel strength has been mobilized, and these individuals are volunteers. While acknowledging existing deficiencies, such as shortages in IT specialists, logistics experts, and personnel advisors, he noted that these gaps are present both within Lithuania and domestically.

The reliance on voluntary service is expected to continue, accompanied by efforts to provide comprehensive support for the families of those serving. According to Pistorius, the commitment remains focused on maintaining operational readiness as the highest priority. He emphasized that exploring alternative staffing models will only commence after all available internal resources and voluntary contributions have been fully utilized.

  1. It seems the focus remains strictly on volunteers, which is a clear policy statement for the defense sector.
