Canada will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest next year

Canada is set to become the newest participant in the Eurovision Song Contest, marking the first new country to join the competition since 2015, when Australia expressed interest in taking part. According to Eurovision director Martin Green, while the event originated in Europe, the contest remains accessible to the global community. The 70th edition of the Eurovision was held in Vienna this past May.

The Bulgarian artist Daros secured the victory with her song, “Bangaranga,” at the major televised event. The scale of the competition was highlighted by its viewership, which reached 131 million viewers. In related developments concerning the governing body, CBC/Radio-Canada was recently announced as a full member of the EBU.

This membership solidifies the growing international participation in the Eurovision framework. The ongoing expansion of the contest underscores its status as a major global cultural event. The inclusion of Canada among the participating nations further demonstrates the international reach of the Eurovision brand.

The success of the 70th contest, headlined by Daros’s win, continues to draw significant worldwide attention to the annual musical showdown.
