Ayatollah Khamenei, the supreme political and religious leader of Iran, passed away following a targeted airstrike on February 28 at his official residence in Tehran. He was 86 years old. As the supreme leader, he held the ultimate authority on all strategic decisions within Iran.

Following his death, the region experienced significant geopolitical tension. Over a period exceeding five weeks, conflicts erupted involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Iranian-backed organizations, including the Lebanese Hezbollah movement, were also involved in the ensuing confrontations, until a truce was established in early April through negotiations between US and Iranian representatives.

Regarding the final rites, a three-day ceremony is anticipated to take place in Tehran. Subsequently, the body of Khamenei is expected to be transferred to the pilgrimage cities of Qum and Iraq. The final interment is scheduled for his hometown of Mashhad on the following Thursday.
