Memorandum for those who have finished school: what is important to know about compulsory health insurance so that you don’t end up owing a debt

State health insurance officials have issued reminders regarding the necessary steps to maintain continuous health insurance coverage and avoid potential dues. Officials noted that a common misconception among young people is the belief that mandatory health insurance remains active indefinitely after completing formal education. Inga Kvedarienė, Chief of the Population Service Department at the State Health Insurance Fund (VLK) in Šiauliai, emphasized that individuals must reassess their status beginning in September.

The determination of who is responsible for contributing to compulsory health insurance depends on current life circumstances. These factors include whether an individual is commencing studies, entering employment, registering with the Employment Service, or planning to relocate abroad. Furthermore, the department provided specific guidance for students.

For young people beginning regular, daily studies in Lithuania starting in September, enrollment in health insurance is automatic. In addition to coverage requirements, dental professionals offered advice on maintaining good oral health. Overall, the guidelines stress that proactive assessment of one’s employment and educational status is important for ensuring uninterrupted health insurance coverage.

Understanding these regulations is important for all residents to manage their health finances effectively and avoid penalties associated with lapsed coverage.
