The winners of the radio frequency auction will pay 29.03 million euros to the state budget

Lithuania is implementing measures to ensure the availability of fast and reliable mobile broadband services across the nation for both residents and commercial enterprises, irrespective of their geographic location. To achieve this objective, the regulatory framework has linked the right to utilize specific radio frequencies to concrete commitments from mobile operators. These commitments mandate network expansion into underserved regions, capacity enhancements, and the guarantee of reliable communication during critical circumstances.

According to RRT Chairwoman Jūratė Šovienė, these obligations are designed to generate long-term value benefiting the economy, society, and the overall resilience of the state. The recent auction for the 700 MHz radio band concluded with a total sale value of 21.9 million euros. This auction provided participating operators with the opportunity to augment their existing spectrum holdings and, where necessary, adjust previously allocated frequencies within the band.

Specifically, “Tele2” secured a portion of the 700 MHz band by paying 10.5 million euros. The strategic acquisition of this spectrum is central to the state’s goal of modernizing national communications infrastructure. By ensuring access to these vital radio resources, the government aims to foster consistent connectivity, thereby supporting economic activity and maintaining a reliable digital backbone for the entire population.

The structured commitment system aims to prevent gaps in service provision and ensure that technological advancements benefit the entire state structure.
