When the border guards took over the control of the cigarette-carrying glider, it crashed onto the ground

On Wednesday night, officers from the Varėna Border Guard District’s Purvėnų outpost detected a small object traversing the state border and entering the country’s interior. The sighting occurred via the video surveillance system situated near Prudeliai village in the Šalčininkai district. Upon recording the intrusion, the border guards immediately deployed specialized drone defense equipment.

This action successfully altered the object’s trajectory, allowing the personnel to block the area where it was expected to fall. The search efforts continued into the early morning hours. As dawn broke, a border guard sentry initiated a ground search, utilizing a service drone to survey the vicinity.

Approximately 500 meters from the state border, near Prudeliai village, the search team located the object. It was a small, unmanned aircraft attached to a bag. The drone appeared to have fallen from a significant altitude, sustaining damage that resulted in the breakage of its propellers and supporting structures upon impact.

A subsequent examination by the border guards confirmed that the device was a homemade flying machine. The incident underscores the ongoing vigilance of the border security forces in monitoring airspace along the national border. The operational response demonstrated the readiness of the guards to manage unauthorized aerial incursions into restricted areas.
