The case of the accident that occurred in Žirmūnai a year ago has not been completed, but the driver has been suspected(1)

On July 3, 2019, police received a report at 10:43 a.m. regarding a fatal accident that occurred on Žirmūnų street in Vilnius. Initial reports indicated that a Volkswagen car had left the roadway and subsequently struck two young women standing at a public transport stop.

The incident resulted in the death of one student, identified as a woman born in 2005. She was enrolled at the Faculty of Education of Vytautas the Great University, specializing in primary education pedagogics and early foreign language teaching within the Kaunas group. The scene of the accident was documented via video footage, which captured the moments at the stop where the fatality occurred.

Furthermore, the video showed that her companion sustained injuries to her leg. A discrepancy was noted regarding the vehicle involved. While the initial report suggested the car ran off the road, evidence indicated that the car did not stop at the designated location.

The video evidence suggested the car continued driving along the sidewalk, and the vehicle itself was later discovered parked some distance from the public transport stop. Authorities investigated the circumstances surrounding the accident. The police investigation focused on determining how the car operated in the area, given the conflicting details between the initial report and the visual evidence gathered at the scene.

The focus remained on the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision involving the Volkswagen car.
