Alert on scandalous court decision: doors open for sexual offenders(1)

Individuals who are subsequently released will remain under the supervision of Probation Service officers until the full term of their sentence has been completed. Regarding the case of R. Jakštys, his immediate release was facilitated because the general legal norm governing parole superseded previous limitations.

According to his lawyer, the general norm stipulates that an individual seeking parole must have completed three-quarters of their sentence term. Consequently, intervention from the Seimas or amendments to the laws were deemed unnecessary, allowing the prison administration to process his release upon request. The lawyer further clarified that parole constitutes the execution of a sentence under modified conditions.

Separately, E. Čekanavičiaus was also released from custody. While some commentary has followed his departure, the individual continues to deny any allegations of guilt.

The legal proceedings surrounding these cases highlight the application of established judicial norms regarding conditional release.
