During a recent meeting of the Jonava District Municipality Council, V. Majauskas took the oath of office as a council member. Furthermore, during the same session, he was appointed as a council member holding temporary duties as Mayor.
The composition of the Jonava District Municipality Council saw notable changes prior to this meeting, as council member P. Garbauskas formally resigned. The Supreme Election Commission (SEC) officially approved his request for resignation on July 9.
The appointed temporary mayor will maintain this role until the next municipal and mayoral elections, which are scheduled for the spring of 2027. Separately, the SEC terminated M. Sinkevičius’s powers as Mayor of the Jonava District Municipality on July 9.
Despite this, the Parliament approved the new government led by M. Sinkevičius on Tuesday. Following this parliamentary action, the new government cabinet was formally established on July 10.
These procedural updates confirm the administrative transitions within the local governance structure while solidifying the council’s temporary leadership framework.
